“New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings” –Lao Tzu

Life isn’t always easy.  It’s full of challenges, sorrow, opportunities and joy. It can be more meaningful and less stressful if you learn some techniques and tools.  As the old adage goes –  you can’t always control the waves, but you can learn how to surf.

My current areas of experience and training include:

  • working with mild to moderate depression and anxiety
  • substance abuse recovery
  • stress and life transitions
  • “life coaching” – exploring what you value in work, relationships and life.
  • trauma work –  I am a trauma sensitive therapist and bring an understanding of how trauma impacts many aspects of mental and physical health.

Treatment Approach:

I am certified in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and have completed additional trainings in trauma.  My approach is person centered and interpersonal.

For those who wish to integrate their spiritual and religious values and practices into treatment, I welcome that and appreciate how it can be helpful.

Experience and Qualifications:

I have a Master’s Degree in Counseling.  Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked many years as a general contractor renovating historic home. I enjoyed looking at a space and getting to know the owner’s needs, wishes and lifestyle.  The process of collaborating with them to find creative solutions and new possibilities is a lot like the counseling process.

Since I was a teenager,  I have explored philosophy and psychology and have always had a keen interest in what makes us tick and what makes us happy.  Now,  I help adults through counseling so that they can find meaningful ways to live fuller, healthier and more balanced lives. You will find me to be gentle, understanding and nonjudgmental.
